Testing the photographic eye…

I have joined a camera club. The aim is to get some feedback, and to push myself to improve. What better, then, than a camera club trip to Woodbridge on the river Deben in Suffolk to test the photographic eye.

A group of photographers (what is the name for a bunch of photographers? a ‘squint’? a ‘gaze’? I know – a ‘leer’!), all with lots of kit and armed with tripods, all looking at the same view.

Everyone is looking at the same thing, but do they see the same…? Looking and seeing, very different things of course. Looking on the whole is easy. Seeing is difficult. Making interesting pictures is even harder…

I’m going for the abstract approach. Concentrate on some details and hope everyone else sees something else.

The first print competition in September will be interesting. Same subject matter, different interpretations. Blimey, I’m a bit nervous! We shall see…
